The world is the true classroom. The most rewarding and important type of learning is through experience, seeing something with our own eyes. In line with this statement, 59 Year 11 students of SJIS participated in an industrial visit to Top Glove, Shah Alam, on the 18th of June 2019, accompanied by 3 IGCSE teachers: Ms. Miresah, Ms.Puspa, and Mr. Ganesan. Top Glove is one of the most prestigious rubber glove manufacturing companies established since 1991. Their product portfolio comprises a wide range of natural and synthetic gloves for household, industrial and medical gloves.

It is our first industrial visit for this year, organised by the Social Science Department of SJIS to Top Glove (TG). The objective of the industrial visit was to expose our students to the gap between theoretical concepts and real-life manufacturing environment. We arrived around 10.30 am and were greeted by TG’s representatives solely from the Human Resources Department: Ms. Siti Sarah, Ms. Syazwin, Ms. Siti Nur Tarisya and Ms. Ng Kai.

The agenda kicked off with a briefing on the overall company’s operation and commendable performance ever since its incorporation, followed by a tour at TG Tower, a certified Green Building Index and subsequently a Plant Tour at Factory 9 to witness their gloves manufacturing facilities. Our students were amazed by the astonishing flow of production processes explained by their engineers led by Ms. Felica Tan, Mr. Cavin Lim, and Mr. Gajendran. The students enjoyed the interactive question and answer session which was held after their plant tour.

This industrial trip had definitely broadened the outlook of students with exposure to the industrial working environment. Besides that, this opportunity has provided a platform for our students to enhance their interpersonal skills and communication techniques. We would like to thank Top Glove Corporation’s Management for their support in making this event a memorable and an educational one for all of us. The session was wrapped up with a token of appreciation exchanged between SJIS and TG’s representatives with a closing keynote of TG’s management’s willingness to offer internship opportunities to our students in the future.
