“There’s always room for a story that can transport people to another place.” – J.K. Rowling
Stories allow us to imagine, visualise and get inspired by what does not exist. Such magic of storytelling was brought to life at St. John’s International School, Campus 2 on the 23rd of August, 2019. This competition was organised in conjunction with SJIS English Enhancement Programme 2019. The competition was contrived with the aim to empower students’ proficiency of the English Language through creative thinking and public speaking. Besides, it is also a unique way for students to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and they can promote a positive attitude to people from different lands, races and religions.
A total of 21 students have participated in the Storytelling Competition, with 10 participants for the Under-15 category and 11 participants for the Under-18 category. Each contestant was given a maximum of five minutes to narrate their story in front of the panel of judges, fellow contestants, teachers and other students.
The contestants were evaluated according to their language proficiency, theme, storyline, presentation, delivery of story and body language. As each contestant told their story with great confidence and enthusiasm, the judges had a difficult and challenging time in making their decision.
The winners for the story telling competition will be announced during the upcoming Monday assembly. Bravo to all the participants for their amazing performances!.
