The brain needs to be regularly challenged in order to attain its uttermost performance.” – Frank Knoll

Staying true to the above statement, 5 SJIS students took part in the Vanda Science Competition Finals and emerged as winners.

Vanda is an International Science Competition held annually around the globe. It is designed to focus on students’ abilities to think critically and creatively to extract hidden information to aid them in solving the questions.

The competition, which was held in Bangunan Peperiksaan, Universiti Malaya on 27th July 2019, had 2 rounds.

Round 1 (60 minutes) was an individual paper-based assessment, while Round 2 (2.5 hours) was a team challenge.

There were participants from different countries such as Singapore, Vietnam, China, India and Philippines who joined the competition.

It was the first time SJIS students reached the final stage of this competition, and the icing on the cake was that they rose to the top.

Each team was required to brainstorm and use their analytical problem-solving skills to compete in the challenge. By winning, our students proved that they can be remarkable team players as well. They have shown that Science is indeed a way of thinking, than it is a body of knowledge.
